Region G
Region G forms the southern periphery of the City and is composed of the following wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 17, 119, 120, 121, 122 and 131. Drieziek, Eldorado Park, Ennerdale, Finetown, Kanana Park, Lakeside, Lawley, Lenasia, Nancefield, Orange Farm, Stretford Extensions, Vlakfontein, and Zakariyya Park fall within the boundaries of Region G.
The Region is on the southern edge (Deep South) of the seven administrative areas of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ). It borders Region D to the northwest and Region F to the northeast. To the west and southwest, it shares a boundary with Westonaria in the West Rand District Municipality. To the east and southeast, the perimeter extends to Emfuleni and Midvaal in the Sedibeng District Municipality.
The region’s northern side consists mainly of residential development intermixed with pockets of undeveloped land. To the east, it consists of vast tracts of farmland with islands of residential developments stretching to Eikenhof. The southeastern part is more densely populated but also consists of mostly extensive portions of farmland. The southwestern and west side is a vast undeveloped and almost exclusively agricultural expanse stretching up to the isolated settlement of Poortjie. The north-western side is mainly residential with a small industrial component – Klipriviersoog.
The region’s north-to-south road links are the N1 and the Golden Highway (R553). From east to west, it is intersected by the N12 (Moroka Bypass). Other main arterials in the area are: Nirvana Drive (R554) in Lenasia; Potchefstroom Road in Protea South/Klipriviersoog; Lenasia Drive (R558); and the R577 to Ennerdale.
Region G has two small nature reserves - one next to Nancefield and Eldorado Park - the other adjacent to Orange Farm. A vlei separates Lenasia from Protea South, Klipriviersoog and Eldorado Park. The region is characterized by vast open spaces, uncultivated farmland, agricultural holdings and undeveloped land. The gradient is predominantly flat.
